Vogue Photographic’s origins are as old as Nelson itself. Having been through many name changes and owners, Vogue Studio came into the hands of Helmuth and Alice Mayrhofer in the early 1950s. The Mayrhofer’s soon established themselves as the best in high quality portraiture. As the business grew, they became known as innovators in both photography and photographic processing techniques. Helmuth and Alice where the first in the region to offer colour processing and, in the early 1980s, where the only slide processing facility in the Kootenay’s. Helmuth and Alice have many Professional Photography awards to there name from portraiture to the hand colouring of photographs.

Michael became a second generation photographer having grown up working in the business. Soon after completing business school he began expressing himself as a portrait photographer. He soon discovered a unique ability to communicate emotions through the portrayal of his clients. Michael, like his parents, have many awards to his name as well as service to the profession, running the local zone, and sitting on the board of directors for the Professional Photographers of British Columbia. Michael has enjoyed the teachings of many mentors over the years and credit them with his development. As well as his portrait photography experience of over 25 years he worked as a trained photographic lab technician and a customer framer over the 35 years of involvement in the industry. Michael is proud to say that “Photography is all that I have done in my life and I bring all of this experience to every client I work with.”

Michael has discovered a great passion for what he does. The ever changing business and styles of the photography industry keeps his interest. When he met his wife Gabi it was natural to encorporate her into the business. Along with business skills, she brings pleasantness and an ability to get the job done. A true partner. Together, they are the new Vogue Photographic. They encompass everything old and new from making quality prints of digital files, to custom framing, and through to award winning photography of the most creative nature.
